What a difference a day makes! To be sure, Day Two dawned just as nippy as Day One, but the dry, sunny conditions made play not just tolerable, but fun. From time to time, the wind did pick up and become a little contrary as the morning progressed. Even so, on Day Two, the players didn’t have to soldier through anything but the course’s natural, demanding design.

This historic, venerable Highland Park course gives the hickory player all the challenge needed. There are elevation changes and hazards on every hole, and by the time the smoke had cleared at the end of Day Two’s Shotgun, it was the team of Roger Andrews and Joe Hollerbach that came out victorious with a two day gross total of 136. Hot on their heels, though, was the team of Brian Schuman and Rick Woeckner with a 137, missing first place by a sliver of a stroke, while Keith Cleveland and Bill Geisler brought in an impressive team total of 139 for third place.

This year, both the Senior and Open Divisions of the Southern Hickory Open played from the same blocks. But Open host Tad Moore tells us here at the Hickory Golf Hub that next year these two divisions will be more clearly defined at the tee blocks. The Senior Division scores have yet to be calculated, but the Society of Hickory Golfers will be hard at that in the days to come. As soon as the Hickory Golf Hub receives the results, we’ll be posting them front and center.

When the pendulum swing of weather from Friday to Saturday is taken into consideration, the score spread between Days One and Two was impressively small. In addition to checking out the scores of the placing teams in both gross and net divisions, be sure to look at the scoreboard images that follow.

Coming soon, a photo gallery chock full of all the action and fun of the 2013 Southern Hickory Open is coming to the Hickory Golf Hub web site. Meanwhile, you’ll find all the photos already on our FaceBook page.

Next stop for the Hickory Golf Hub will be the 2013 Belvedere Hickory Open. Meanwhile, keep sending us your local hickory news and we’ll be sure to post it right here on the Hickory Golf Hub.
